Look around your office.  Take a quick mental inventory of your technology.  Desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones and the list goes on and on right?  With all these different tech devices in our business lives it is more important than ever to keep on top of regular maintenance.  What exactly needs to be done periodically to keep things running smoothly and ensure the latest security.  Let’s take a look at some of the regular maintenance you should have done on your business technology.

  • Updated Software – While some computers (like Windows computers) update automatically others need to have the software regularly updated.  When that alert comes up on the screen that it is time to update apps, software and programs – don’t ignore it.
  • Backup Data – We at M&H Consulting can not say this enough – backup your data regularly!   Data is the backbone of your business.  Unfortunately users forget to do this or wait until precious data has been lost.  Regular backup on a cloud server for your most important files should be done and can be done fairly easily with the right know-how or the right IT consulting company who will stay on top of it for you.  External drive backup for files that are worked on daily can ensure that the latest changes will be saved.
  • Old Programs – Programs that are out-of-date and no longer used should be cleared off your system regularly so that they are not taking up space.
  • Wifi/Router Updates and Maintenance – Speed problems and spotty connections can usually be solved by updating and fixing performance issues regularly.
  • Disk Space Cleanup – During the course of months or even years, files that are no longer used or needed continue to pile up possibly slowing the computer system down and taking up precious space.  Using disk cleanup and scans you can seek out and cleanup files that are no longer used.
  • Hardware Cleanup – Seriously!  Have you looked inside your hard drive ever?  The dust, dirt and debris can be substantial.  Talk to tech professionals like our team here at M&H about regular maintenance including the hardware blowouts.
